The Consulate General of India, Chicago w
ebsite states as follows:
"Please note that if you have acquired US (foreign) Citizenship on or before 31 May 2010 and if you have "Cancelled" stamp on your Indian passport, then there is a no requirement of acquiring "Surrender Certificate". If you do not have a cancelled stamp on Indian passport then you need to get the "Surrender Certificate". However fees for that is US$ 20/- only."

While I welcome this decision, I'd like to represent that I have not been treated justly.
On May dd, 2010 , as I had to obtain VISA to visit India, I was forced to submit applications for the Surrender Certificate with the Consulate General of India, Houston along with the fees of $175 . I received the same on DD May 2010. I had no option then but to adhere to the rules.

Now with the latest rule in effect I request you to refund a sum of $155.00 which has been overpaid by me.
I am a citizen of the for quite some years now.

Sincerely,
